Scholarship Deadline

The Santa Fe Springs Chamber /League Youth Enrichment Fund is seeking applications for a scholarship which may be awarded to a Santa Fe Springs resident graduating from high school or currently enrolled in college or trade school who is pursuing an education in the ARTS.  The application is attached.  The grant is for a maximum of $2,500. Applicants are not restricted to one year; they may reapply annually for reconsideration.

The application criteria include the following:

  • Student must be studying a field in the ARTS (art, photography, dance, music, theater, graphic design, writing, etc.).
  • Minimum GPA of 2.5 (unweighted) as shown by a high-school or college transcript.
  • Santa Fe Springs resident of two years or longer (Proof of residency is required).
  • Active involvement in school activities and clubs.
  • Active involvement in civic causes and sincere in continuing their education in the ARTS.

The application must be completed and submitted online. The deadline to submit your application is Wednesday, March 31, 2021.

Applications will be reviewed and all applicants will receive written notice of the selected finalists.  Finalists will be scheduled for an oral interview on Thursday, May 6, 2021.  The recipient will be announced after the oral interviews have been completed.

The Youth Enrichment Fund’s “Powell Scholarship” program is an opportunity for the business community to enrich the education of a Santa Fe Springs resident.

  • Application and grant rules:

    All applications must be submitted by Wednesday, March 31, 2021

    Up to one grant will be awarded per year to recognize an individual’s talent and interest in vocational fields related to artistic careers. The fields include, but are not limited to, music, dance, fine arts, writing, drama, art history, graphic arts, and photography.

    Applicant must be a high school senior or college student currently pursuing higher education and has been a resident of Santa Fe Springs for at least two (2) years prior to the date of their application. Proof of residency will be required and is subject to verification. Any falsification of information on this application is subject to disqualification, termination and repayment of the grant.

    Minimum Qualifications:

    • Submit proof of residency in Santa Fe Springs (must have been a resident for two years prior to date of application)
    • Submit a copy of transcript(s) showing a minimum G.P.A. of 2.5 as of December 2020. (Applicant must be a High School Senior or enrolled in college or trade school)
    • Submit an essay explaining why you are a good candidate for this award (up to 2 pages double-spaced)
    • Submit two letters of recommendation from adults who are not family members
    • YEF is under no obligation to award a grant in any year.

    The grant monies provided by the Santa Fe Springs Chamber/League Youth Enrichment Fund, "The Powell Scholarship" are a gift and are always subject to funds availability. The recipient will be required to meet with the Scholarship Committee once after receiving the grant award. The grant amount will not exceed $2,500 in any year. Applicants are not restricted in the grant application process to one year; however, they must apply annually for reconsideration. The grant may be presented to the same applicant for a period not to exceed four years.
